MPs set to clash over abortion proposals

MPs have drawn battle lines as they prepare to debate moves to “decriminalise” abortion - which critics say could allow terminations right up to birth.

Labour’s Stella Creasy and Tonia Antoniazzi are proposing separate amendments to the Crime and Policing Bill which would prevent women being prosecuted for ending a pregnancy.

The Speaker is expected to choose at least one for a vote today.

Both would keep existing rules allowing terminations up to 23 weeks and six days of pregnancy.
