MP left in tears after 'stalker' came to hotel

DAME Emily Thornberry told a court she was distraught after a former Metropolitan Police medic accused of stalking her for 18 months turned up outside her hotel.

The Labour MP, 64, said it happened during last year’s party conference in Liverpool.

She told jurors she finally reported Dr Suzanne Lucey to police to “draw a line” on her behaviour.

Dame Emily told Southwark Crown Court yesterday: “I don’t like showing weakness but I just started crying and shaking. It was awful, really awful. She was obviously not well and had got much worse. I was really frightened.

Ordeal

“I felt really guilty that I hadn’t dealt with it before but now I had to. So I told security at the conference and I told the police.”

Prosecutor Benjamin Holt said Lucey, 56, stalked the ex-shadow attorney general from December 2022 until her arrest last October.
