'More deportations' after festival horror

GERMANY'S leader vowed to toughen knife laws and step up the removal of failed asylum-seekers as he visited the scene where an Islamist extremist from Syria is accused of killing three people.

Olaf Scholz, speaking after laying a white flower at a memorial in Solingen, said he was "furious" about the attack which also injured eight. A man surrendered to police a day after the stabbing at a festival marking the city's 650th year.

Prosecutors claim the suspect shared the radical ideology of Isis and was acting on that when he knifed his victims in the neck.
