JOHN TERRY admits Chelsea “a few years away” from competing for the Premier League title.

Club legend Terry, 44, has also warned that his former team can only gain experience and attract the best players through landing the major trophies.

The Blues ended the season on a high by winning the Europa Conference League and earning a place in the Champions League.

Now they are about to compete at the Club World Cup in the USA.

Terry won trophies galore during Roman Abramovich’s reign, when the likes of Didier Drogba and Eden Hazard turned Chelsea into champions.

But the former England captain now feels “frustrated” their young squad are not closer to challenging Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City for the top prizes.

Terry said: “I want Chelsea to be winning the biggest trophies. Are we close? I think we are still a few years away from competing for the Premier League again.

“We need to catch Arsenal, City and Liverpool to have a chance of doing that. We need experience. It’s through winning. If we're competing for a top striker, a top keeper, I know where I'd be going.
