LABOUR MPs were set to reject calls from bereaved parents for a swift ban on social media companies targeting children under 16.

The government was due to use its Commons majority last night to reverse an earlier Lords vote, which called for restrictions on the platforms to be introduced within 12 months.

Instead, MPs supported Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson’s plan to wait for the results of a consultation.

Tories said action would be delayed until 2029 at the earliest — if at all.
