'It is not fair to leave younger generations with a world in a worse state than I found it'

THE King has said he is standing up for the environment on behalf of younger generations as he gives hope that combating climate change is still possible.

Featuring in a documentary with adventurer Steve Backshall, Charles, 77, speaks of his frustrations about inaction on climate change and explains that he wants to avoid leaving “a ghastly legacy of horror” that younger people will have to deal with.

In the feature-length documentary, to air as part of ITV’s Christmas coverage later this month, the monarch shows the public a different side of himself.

His knowledge about and passion for the environment shine through as always, but viewers also get an insight into his senses of adventure and humour.

The producers hope the monarch will be able to reach a demographic that climate campaigners cannot, as they aim to tell crucial stories while also entertaining and engaging a mass audience.

The film follows Backshall as he retraces the King’s 1975 trip to the Canadian Arctic 50 years on.

Then aged 26, Prince Charles embarked on a royal tour like no other, braving the freezing climates of the Arctic and taking on hardcore challenges such as a 30-minute under-ice scuba dive and driving a skidoo at 50mph.
