Island fossil hunter's rare discovery

A RARE well-preserved ammonite fossil thought to be 105 million years old has been uncovered at a beauty spot.

Jack Wonfor, 24, and his 12-year-old cousin Amelie Russel spotted the ancient mollusc sticking out of a rock by the coast and spent days carving it out with a special tool.

Jack, a keen fossil hunter with about 6,000 samples in his collection, said it was particularly rare to find an ammonite with a complete rostrum - a curved tail-like projection sticking out from the end of the fossil. He said: "There's not many types of ammonite that have a rostrum.
