Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker on going rogue

- WORDS: LAUREN MORRIS

Suranne Jones and Jodie Whittaker are transforming into the ultimate conwomen in ITV's latest thriller, Frauds, playing two criminals who reunite for one final heist.

Costar and co-creator Suranne embraced fake tattoos and baggy bowling shirts for the role of Bert. However, it was her hair colour that raised the eyebrows of ITV bosses.

"We assumed Jodie would be blonde and then when we saw her, she was brunette and didn't want to dye her hair," Suranne says.

"I was going to have a buzz cut but I said, 'That's fine, you don't have to dye your hair and I'll go blonde.'"

In the six-part series, Bert reunites with her ex criminal partner Sam - played by Jodie - in southern Spain after spending 10 years in prison over a job-gone-wrong. With Bert out on compassionate leave after a cancer diagnosis, she convinces Sam to take on one last heist.

The stars admit that their criminal counterparts couldn't be more different to them in real life - particularly for Jodie.
