Board fears meat cleaver killer risks facing vigilante mob

- By Michael Knowles and Steph Spyro

A GRIEVING mother has revealed a sadistic killer convinced the Parole Board to give him a private hearing to spare him the upset of facing his victim's family and friends.

The panel said Stephen Wynne, who murdered and dismembered Chantel Taylor, needed to be able to “do himself justice” as he begs to be let out.

And the board claimed the campaign led by Chantel’s mother, Jean Taylor, has “created a significant risk” of vigilante justice towards the killer.

Mother-of-three Chantel, 27, was murdered with a meat cleaver by former soldier Stephen Wynne at his home in Birkenhead, Merseyside, in March 2004. He was only caught when he tried to set light to a mosque.

The panel was set to hear his bid for freedom next week but it has since been adjourned to sometime between August and January. Now Jean has vowed to seek legal advice.

Wynne, who she fears will kill again, has never revealed where he buried Chantel’s body, adding to the family’s heartache.
