How diabetes drug could help Alzheimer's patients

OZEMPIC could be key to reducing Alzheimer's disease and slowing the progression to dementia, researchers believe.

Scientists are trialling semaglutide marketed as Ozempic and Wegovy on 3,680 patients with early Alzheimer's with results reported next year.

Semaglutide reduces inflammation, which is common in many conditions such as Alzheimer's and Parkinson's disease as well as Type 2 diabetes, heart disease and lupus.

One US study of more than one million Type 2 diabetes patients found those on semaglutide had up to a 70% reduced risk of being diagnosed with Alzheimer's within the next three years.
