Suite dreams

- BY ROBERT DALLING

You'll feel like you're standing on the shoulders of giants at Embassy Suites, with majestic views of the Burj Khalifa, overlooking Dubai's business district.

Embassy Suites is one of Hilton's newest hotels in Dubai, having only opened its doors to guests on September 26, 2024.

In fact, it is the first Embassy Suites brand that Hilton has opened anywhere in the UAE.

But what makes the hotel even more unique is that it is next door to another of the hotelier's properties - Garden Inn - which opened its doors on the same day last year.

It is the first time Hilton has ever integrated two of its brands.

Arriving at Embassy Suites, I was assigned a king guest room on the highest floor of the 30-storey property. After a short elevator ride, I entered my home for the evening, and it took a while to notice anything else apart from the million-dirham views through its floor-to-ceiling panoramic windows.

Arriving at night, it meant I had the perfect vantage point to enjoy the city's skyline lit up, and the world's tallest structure, the Burj Khalifa, flashing different colour patterns in the distance. It felt like a setting from a movie - and took my breath away.

It tops my personal chart of the finest views I've enjoyed from a hotel room.

Dragging myself away from the window, I took time to appreciate the rest of the room's qualities.

FELIPE FUMES OVER CURRY

ARGENTINA head coach Felipe Contepomi labelled Tom Curry a bully and accused the flanker of pushing him in the tunnel after England's fiery win. Contepomi also claimed Curry had sworn at him and said full-back Juan Cruz Mallia had a suspected knee ligament injury as a result of the Englishman's late tackle. The former Puma fly-half, who is a qualified doctor, was livid with the tackle, which left his side a man down chasing the game.
