NEW WHITE-BALL SKIPPER IS READY TO LIFT ENGLAND

HARRY BROOK slipped into the cockpit as England’s white-ball captain and immediately at the bar at winning World Cups and major global tournaments.

As the Lord’s Ministry of Slogs decided not to overload Test skipper Ben Stokes right after an injury-disrupted year, Brook was the overwhelming choice to take over both the one-day international and Twenty20 sides.

The 26-year-old Yorkshire batter, an automatic first-choice pick across all formats, replaces Jos Buttler and began with a convincing mission statement.

He said: “There’s so much talent in this country, and I’m looking forward to getting started, moving us forward, and working towards winning series, World Cups and major events. I’m excited to get going and give it everything I’ve got.”
