Harper: We're focused on the job, not an early election

RISHI Sunak is focused on delivering for voters, insisted Cabinet minister Mark Harper yesterday, as he dismissed calls for an early general election.

The Prime Minister is facing growing unrest among his backbenchers following last week's by-election drubbings in Tamworth and Mid Bedfordshire.

Pollsters said an overwhelming majority of the public now wants Mr Sunak to go to the country by May.

Mr Harper insisted the PM is concentrating his efforts instead on halving inflation and has the full support of his MPs.

Confidence

The Transport Secretary told GB News: "I have total confidence in the Prime Minister. I campaigned very hard to get him to be Prime Minister in the first place.

"I think he has repaid the confidence we have had in him in the year he has been PM.

"He is totally focused on the priorities that he set out, which are the right priorities for the British people.
