CARSLEY CONVINCED AFTER DEFEAT

LEE CARSLEY insists defeat by Germany in the group stages convinced him England could go all the way in the European Under-21 Championship.

The Young Lions face the same opposition in tonight's final in Bratislava and Carsley revealed he told opposite number Antonio Di Salvo the teams would meet again.

Carsley, below, said: "It was a bit tongue-in-cheek. I thought that we'd be in the final. I wasn’t sure if they would be. I was confident that we would do well in this tournament."

The Young Lions snuck through to the knockouts, finishing second in Group B after a 2-1 defeat by Germany.
