Fun and games on second day of German state visit

THE King and Queen played snakes and ladders and made paper hand-prints with their German guests yesterday as they showcased the work of charity volunteers.

The second day of the state visit began with President Frank-Walter Steinmeier and First Lady Elke Biidenbender paying a private visit to Queen Elizabeth Il’s tomb at Windsor Castle.

At 10am the couple met Charles and Camilla, who had hosted them at a glittering state banquet the previous night. They went to the castle’s Inner Hall, which had never been used for an official engagement before.

Inside were 60 charity staff and volunteers — and a sleigh designed by German-born Prince Albert for his wife Queen Victoria.
