Freeview axe 'to hit vulnerable hardest'

THIRTEEN million households face having to pay an “expensive broadband contract” if Freeview TV is scrapped, activists warn.

Ministers are set to decide whether to turn off terrestrial signals and force viewers to rely on internet-based TV.

Outgoing BBC director general Tim Davie has urged the government to press ahead with axing traditional TV broadcasts.

But Dennis Reed, director of campaigners Silver Voices, said: “There will be political fury if the government takes the rash decision to scrap Freeview.

Thirteeen million households will find their rooftop aerial is no longer working, and they will be forced to take out an expensive broadband contract to continue watching their favourite shows.
