Foreign crooks commit 10,000 crimes in year

FOREIGN criminals who avoided deportation committed 10,000 offences in a single year, official figures show.

Ministry of Justice data has revealed that a quarter went on to reoffend after being released from jail.

Each of the 3,235 who were freed accounted for three crimes, on average, giving the total in the year to March 2022 of 10,012 further offences.

That represented a rise of 25% on the previous year's total of 8,021 offences committed by 2.462 freed criminals.

Over the four years of data, foreign offenders were responsible for around 40,000 crimes.

Offences ranged from murder to knife possession and drug dealing. Some did leave the UK, only to return to commit further crimes.
