A PIECE of the Sycamore Gap tree which was illegally felled is to go on display, with visitors encouraged to touch or hug its trunk.

- By Tom Wilkinson

Artist Charlie Whinney has been commissioned to create an artwork in tribute to the tree which stood beside Hadrian’s Wall.

A 6ft section of the trunk was preserved and it will go on display today just two miles from where it stood, at The Sill: National Landscape Discovery Centre.
