'England star spiralled into despair after losing job as batting coach'

FORMER England cricketer Graham Thorpe was left “distraught” after a video he shared of a drinking session on tour in 2022 was leaked — leading to him losing his job as assistant coach, an inquest has heard.

His widow Amanda told the hearing that Graham tried to take his life later that year.

Two years later, on the morning of August 4, 2024, he died after being struck by a train at a railway station in Surrey.

Until 2020 he had no psychological issues in particular, Amanda said, apart from “a bout of depression” in 2018 that did not affect his job.
