'Eat wild fish for nutrients missing in farmed fillets'

WILD fish provide more vitamins and minerals than farmed salmon and we should eat more of them, a study says.

Oily fish including herring, anchovies and mackerel are rich in nutrients such as omega-3 fatty acids, which cut the risk of heart disease and stroke.

These species are often used to feed farmed salmon but, if we just eat fillets from salmon they are fed to, some of the nutrients are lost from our diets.

Lead author Dr David Willer, of Cambridge University, said: "What we're seeing is that most species of wild fish used as feed have a similar or greater density and range of micronutrients than farmed salmon fillets.
