Hero Fiennes Tiffin stars alongside his uncle Joseph Fiennes in the origin story of the world's greatest detective

of film director Martha Fiennes. “My mum and Joe are siblings, and we're quite a big family, so we don’t get to see each other very often. On one level, it was a nice excuse to see my uncle a lot more. But then acting opposite him was a blessing — I learnt a lot.

“I see him as my uncle Joe, but I also see him as Joseph Fiennes, the amazing actor. It was a privilege to work with him.”

Joseph, 55, who describes his nephew as “wonderful”, was equally thrilled to be working alongside his younger relative.

“Playing the role of Silas Holmes, father to young Sherlock, this iconic detective that audiences know so well, was a wonderful challenge. And I think what made it extra special is that young Sherlock Holmes, Hero Fiennes Tiffin, is my nephew,” he says.

“There's a great, already intrinsic family connection. Actor to actor, there’s a wealth of private history we have that subliminally feeds into all of the interactions we have as actors.
