Cost of not taking cash on holiday

GOING abroad without taking any cash may prove to be a costly mistake for holidaymakers as four in 10 have been caught out when needing physical money, research shows.

Some 39% of trippers found themselves stuck when cash was required - most commonly for tipping, taxis and shopping at smaller retailers, says the website Be Clever With Your Cash.

Prepaid and specialist travel cards can make it easier to rely less on cash but travellers suddenly needing some may incur extra costs, according to a survey of 2,000 UK travellers by Opinium.
