Champagne, Stilton, now Cockneys want protected status for pie and mash

COCKNEYS are campaigning for the east London classic pie 'n' mash to be given protected status, like Cornish pasties and France's Champagne.

Supportive celebrity Londoners include ex-EastEnder Danny Dyer and comic Arthur Smith, while David Beckham calls it his favourite food.

Stilton cheese, Scotch whisky and Welsh lamb have special status - and now Londoners want a Protected Geographical Indication mark for their savoury minced beef pie, mashed potatoes and parsley liquor - which can be accompanied by stewed jellied eels.
