Fears violence will engulf other cities

VIOLENT demonstrations against Donald Trump's immigration raids threatened to spread across America last night.

Protesters torched cars and forced a motorway to close as unrest in Los Angeles continued for a third day.

Violence also broke out in neighbouring San Francisco, sparking fears the trouble could engulf other US cities.

Former New York governor Andrew Cuomo predicted: “I believe it’s going to get worse and it’s going to be New York.”

President Trump’s administration wants to arrest 3,000 people a day in an unprecedented anti-immigration crackdown.

Violence began on Friday, after Immigration Custom Enforcement officers carried out raids across LA, centred in the southern suburb of Paramount, where the population is at least 82% Hispanic.

Central LA became the focus of Sunday’s protests after it emerged detainees were being held in its Federal Building.
