Broker guilty of killing wife for life insurance

A MORTGAGE broker who was in around £300,000 of debt has been found guilty of the murder of his wife, having paid off the arrears on her life insurance policy days earlier.
Robert Hammond, 47, faced a "surging mountain financial of debt and pressures" when his estranged wife was found strangled, Cambridge Crown Court was told.
Prosecutor Christopher Paxton KC said Sian Hammond's life insurance policy was for a £450,000 payout in the event of her death.
Hammond denied his wife's murder but he was found guilty by a unanimous verdict yesterday, Cambridgeshire police said. He will be sentenced on July 23.
