Beach risk to dogs as 'barrels' of oil wash up

DOG walkers have been urged to be vigilant after a fatty substance that can be highly dangerous to their pets washed up on three beaches.

Coastguard officers in Kent said they found a barrel-shaped lump of what is believed to be palm oil at Ramsgate Main Sands on Saturday.

Officers have warned dog owners to steer clear while Thanet District Council said it will also put up warning signs after further sightings were reported at Margate Main Sands and Botany Bay.
