Battle of bulge: MoD spent £50k on weight-loss drugs

DEFENCE chiefs have come under fire for “doling out expensive weight-loss drugs” after blowing nearly £50,000 on semaglutide.

The revelation comes as Army instructors attacked a drop in physical training standards in recent years, warning troops are “not fit to fight”. One said: “Fitness standards are horrendous, the Army is not pre-pared to fight. It is actually a joke.”

Diabetes

The Minister for Veteran Affairs, Al Carns, has told MPs: “The Ministry of Defence has spent £49,900 on the drug semaglutide since January 1, 2024.”

Semaglutide is a diabetic medication used for the treatment of type-2 diabetes in military patients.”
