'Avalanche' of bank branch closures hit the oldest hardest

AN “avalanche” of bank branch shutdowns risks limiting older people’s access to their cash, as well as their independence, a charity says.

Santander announced yesterday that 95 more of its high street sites will be axed, with about 750 jobs at risk.

Age UK warned that the nationwide trend means "considerably fewer opportunities for face-to-face banking exist now than even just a couple of years ago".
