£120k protection limit great news for savers

Savers with larger sums will enjoy added security from December when the Financial Services Compensation Scheme (FSCS) raises the UK deposit protection limit to £120,000.

Today, the FSCS protects the first £85,000 of savings in a bank account should their provider fail or go bust, a figure set back in 2017.

Sam Woods, deputy governor for prudential regulation at the Bank of England, said the increase will help boost public confidence in the safety of their money: “Depositors will be protected up to £120,000 should their bank, building society or credit union fail.
