A DATA storage centre of “regional importance” will be built in Rhondda Cynon Taf after councillors gave it their approval.
-

An application for the data centre on land east of the A4119 at Mwyndy Cross was approved by Rhondda Cynon Taf (RCT) Council's planning committee on Thursday.
Data centres are considered by the UK Government to represent critical infrastructure with the ability to provide storage and processing of data for business and domestic use, states the planning report.
Each centre is part of a network to ensure sufficient capacity and resilience to operate continuously across a wider area, it added.
This development will include a large single-storey building, with a 2,140 square metre footprint, and length and width of 71m and 30m respectively.
In addition to the server rooms where data is stored and managed, a centre will include heat exchangers, air conditioning plant, back up generators, as well as office space, 24-hour on-site security and staff facilities.
The plans also include electrical and mechanical plant equipment and substation, a new vehicle access, landscaping and sustainable urban drainage proposals as well as waste storage, parking and cycle stands.
