Parish eager to extend contract of Eagles' historic manager

CRYSTAL Palace chairman Steve Parish is convinced manager Oliver Glasner will still be in the Eagles dugout when their first bona-fide European campaign takes flight, writes Rachel Steinberg.

The Austrian is under contract until the end of next season, but leading Palace to FA Cup glory and the Europa League has only brightened the spotlight on the 50-year-old, who won the same continental competition while in charge of Eintracht Frankfurt in 2022 and cannot shed speculation he might soon leave Selhurst Park.

Parish has now watched Palace go from the brink of liquidation - before being saved by his consortium in 2010 - to securing their first major silverware on Saturday, and can scarcely believe legions of south Londoners will soon be jetting off to follow his side in Europe.

The club's only previous European adventure was a brief foray in the Intertoto Cup in 1998.

“The Europa League, it’s going to be a real journey,” said the chairman, after Palace beat Manchester City 1-0 in Saturday's Wembley cup final.
