Some iconic TV roles shouldn't be recast

I FOR one have no intention of watching ITV's forthcoming rebooting of Dalziel and Pascoe, based on the books by Reginald Hill, described grandiosely as a "fresh and contemporary reimagining", and the production of which will begin this spring.

The BBC version (1996-2007) starring the magnificent late Warren Clarke as the inimitable blunt-talking, politically incorrect and crotch-scratching Detective Superintendent Andy Dalziel is just irreplaceable in that role, so ITV shouldn't have wasted their time.
