Police commissioner calls for new laws for young drivers

YOUNG drivers should be banned from driving late at night and carrying passengers of a similar age under radical proposed new driving laws, according to the West Midlands Police Commissioner.

Newly-qualified drivers would start on what is known as 'progressive driving licences', forcing them to follow strict rules in the months after passing their tests.

West Midlands Police and Crime Commissioner Simon Foster has written to the Government urging officials to bring in the changes.

Mr Foster argues the move could be key to reducing fatal crashes among young drivers.
