Night bus helps to cut crime in resort

THE late-night bus service for partygoers in Newquay has been praised for helping to contribute to a reduction in reports of antisocial behaviour (ASB) and sexual offences.

This year the night bus, which operated from May 24 to September 6, saw more than 740 people use the Saturday service to get home safely.
It was introduced two years ago to help tackle drink-driving offences, as well as ASB and violence against women and girls.
In the months the bus was operational, police saw a 50% reduction in public order and sexual offences reported in Newquay.
