Narrow defeat in opening match despite victory on more rinks

BOWLS

THE men played their first match of the season in the Somerset County League.

Travelling to Paulton, although Wells won on two rinks they suffered a narrow four-shot defeat - 62-58. Wells gained four points in the league to Paulton’s eight.

Rink scores: M Strudwick, S Parke, A Barrett, A Wickham 21 shots (Paulton 18); J Rossiter, T Williamson, P Kirk, D Bishop 10 shots (Paulton 25); L Palmer, T Collingwood, F Rossi, A Whitehead 27 shots (Paulton 19).

Drawn at Yeovil in the National Two Fours (Open) Competition, Wells A put up a creditable performance by sharing rink wins.

They lost by just three shots over-all, 37-34.

Rink scores: L Sykes, T Collingwood, S Parke, A Whitehead 14 shots (Yeovil 23); Jon Rossiter, R Allen, P Allen, A Denning 20 shots (Yeovil 14).

Heather Willerton & Alan Wickham won their preliminary round match of the Bowls England Mixed Pairs Competition at home to Castle Cary, 17-11.

Anyone interested in bowls is welcome to City of Wells' Club Nights on Mondays at 6pm, and also every Sunday in May between 11am-1pm. Equipment is provided, you just need to wear flat shoes.
