Bells ring out in full peal for first time in 100 years thanks to appeal

FOR the first time in 100 years on Sunday Compton Dundon church bells were heard across the village in a full peal of six after £160,000 was raised to restore them.
To celebrate, the Bishop of Bath and Wells the Right Reverend Michael Beasley dedicated the bells during a special service at the 14th century St Andrew’s Church on Sunday.
Villagers spent six years raising funds through local events and tapping into grants.
According to fundraisers restoring, replacing and modernising the existing bells while getting two newer ones to reproduce a full 360 degree circle ring is an ‘unusual ecclesiastical achievement.
Only a handful of Somerset churches have undertaken what is a difficult, long term task.
