Amulet Theatre reopens for temporary pop-up events
Central Somerset Gazette
|June 19, 2025
'BUY The Amulet, a community-driven initiative dedicated to buying and reopening Shepton Mallet’s brutalist theatre, has announced a programme of pop-up summer events that will see the return of cinema, theatre and live music to the Amulet, for the first time since it closed to the public in 2006.
-
There will be something for everyone in the events line-up, which opens with Mark Chadwick of the Levellers, pictured inset, on Friday, July 4, followed the next day by Shepton Mallet Big Band, and runs until the end of August 2025. There will be evening movie nights and the popular tradition of Saturday afternoon family films will also return. Two theatre shows will take place in August with Noel Coward’s classic Private Lives featuring a cast of five professional actors.
All the events are listed at https://buytheamulet.org.uk/events
The pop-up events will take place in a temporary event space that has been built by volunteers on the ground floor of the Amulet. This includes a 60-capacity fixed seat mini-auditorium, complete with control room and actor’s dressing room, together with an exhibition gallery and a cafe bar area.
