Vhembe Muni cracks down on illegal connections

THE Vhembe District Municipality (VDM) is intensifying its fight against illegal water connections and the vandalism of water infrastructure, as is evident in the court appearance of the 34-year-old Amukelani Chauke.
Chauke, suspected of illegal water connections, reappeared in the Malamulele Magistrate's Court on Friday in a hearing attended by Mayor Freda Nkondo and a large number of community members.
Outside the court, residents chanted and held placards reading, 'No to vandalism of water pipes', 'Stop illegal connections', and 'Selling water without a licence is a crime'.
Chauke's case was postponed to January 23 for further police investigations and he remains out on bail.
