SCRAPPING NSFAS IS LONG OVERDUE

FOR YEARS, the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS) has been a story of noble intentions betrayed by catastrophic execution.

Conceived as a vital lifeline for millions of deserving students, it has instead become a symbol for administrative failure, leaving a trail of debt, despair, and broken dreams. Therefore, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana's proposal to scrap the current model and redirect funding directly to institutions is not just a welcome reform; it is a long-overdue intervention to rescue the very ideal of accessible education from the jaws of a broken system. In its current form, NSFAS was working directly against the students it was meant to help, transforming a promised opportunity into a source of immense stress and hardship.
