Public caution urged as elephant seals visit Cape Town beaches

THE public has been urged to leave alone and view from a distance southern elephant seals spotted on Cape Town beaches.
The Two Oceans Aquarium Foundation and City’s wildlife management teams have been hard at work monitoring some unique visitors to Cape Town’s coastline.
Over the past few months, individual elephant seals have been spotted hauling up on Cape Town beaches. Their presence has been growing public interest as locals and tourists are eager to catch a glimpse of these extraordinary giants.
“We are so lucky to have these amazing creatures visit our shoreline, and we appeal to members of the public to please leave them alone, respect their space, and view them from a distance.
“They don’t need help, food, or water - the best we can do for them is give them peace and space,” said Carryn and Environmental Manager for the City, Gregg Oelofse.
