Community grapples with violence

Jindela was charged along with his wife, Unathi Jindela, Bonisani Fihla, and Phakamisa Nkopho, for murder, attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal possession of a firearm, and illegal possession of ammunition in 2021.

National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Eric Ntabazalila said: “The murder trial in which he was an accused will continue with the remaining accused at the Western Cape High Court.”

Stellenbosch Community police forum chairperson André Pelser said: “There are a lot of shootings in townships and not just in Kayamandi. The problem is that guns end up in the wrong hands. Communities need to get involved, they need to take ownership of their neighbourhood. We have a sub-forum in Kayamandi, and they are trying to establish neighbourhood watches, we are busy with the technology and crime mapping to identify hotspots.
