SAPS: A call for reform

OUR police service, the good cops and the bad cops, have been front and centre in the spotlight regarding the work they do, more than normal, ever since Lieutenant-General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi fired off a series of allegations, more than a week-and-a-half ago.

He accused the Minister of Police, Senzo Mchunu, and his supposed disciples of cosying up with corrupt politicians, prosecutors and drug cartels.

Those claims are yet to be tested, but will come under scrutiny when the judicial commission of inquiry that was instituted by President Cyril Ramaphosa this week, takes effect.

Acting Deputy Chief Justice Mbuyiseli Madlanga will head the inquiry and he will be assisted by two other lawyers.
