Power restored after airport fire

POWER has been restored at Cape Town International Airport following a fire that erupted in the Northern Service Yard yesterday.
The Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) said the fire was detected at approximately 11.15am and was extinguished shortly thereafter. In response to the incident, sections of the International Terminal affected by smoke were evacuated as a precaution. Emergency personnel and fire and rescue teams were deployed to the scene, ensuring that all safety protocols were observed.
Acsa confirmed that technical teams are working to stabilise network and IT systems, with services gradually returning to normal.
Social media was abuzz with pictures and videos of the scene, showing all protocols being observed, with emergency personnel and fire and rescue onsite.
Ofentse Dijoe, Airports Company South Africa (Acsa) group spokesperson, said international departures have been temporarily suspended.
