Allegations of torture against AGU members

THE State is opposing the release on bail of the 11 Anti-Gang Unit (AGU) members, one of whom is a woman, arrested and charged with the kidnapping, torture and murder of a Manenberg man.
They are also accused of the assault of his friends whom they were apparently interrogating.Three of the AGU members made an appearance at the Athlone Magistrates’ Court on Monday, with the remaining eight scheduled to be in the dock on December 18 and 19 for their bail applications.
According to their official charge sheet, the State is set to prove that the group unlawfully and intentionally Killed the victim, Wade Price, by hitting him multiple times on his head and body with objects. They allegedly smothered and choked him.
The State further alleges that the members kicked Price in the face and hit him in the face multiple times with their hands.
