FIRST TEAM PUT FOUR GOALS PAST STRUGGLING IPSWICH SIDE

CAMBRIDGE South Hockey Club's women’s first team’s flying start to the season continued as they collected a first win in seven attempts against Ipswich seconds, beating them 4-1 in the Mr Cricket Hockey East Women’s League Division 1N.

The visitors travelled high on confidence after winning their opening two games, whilst Ipswich were looking for their first point of the campaign.

The play went to form as South controlled proceedings through the first half, which they ended 1-0 to the good thanks to Izzy MacDonald-Parry's penalty corner drag-flick.

A second soon after the restart from Sophie Lubbock, fired in powerfully from the edge of the shooting circle, gave South breathing room, and then overran their hosts for the next 20 minutes.

This period included further goals from Ameila Barclay and Liv Greenaway.

Barclay’s strike capped a player-of-the-match performance in which she popped up everywhere, whilst Greenaway’ finish was a cheeky nutmeg of the keeper.

Ipswich scored a late consolation goal, but by then South's victory was long-since assured. It was enough to move them two points clear at the top of Division 1N.
