INEOS' NEW LAUNCH RULES OFF ROAD

THE INEOS Grenadier has been around a while, having first arrived designed to be focused entirely on getting owners where they need to be, regardless of the conditions.

INEOS' NEW LAUNCH RULES OFF ROAD

This version, the Quartermaster, takes the rugged underpinnings of the Station Wagon, and adds a usable truck bed. It completes a trio of Grenadiers - but is it the one to pick?

WHAT'S NEW?

From its inception, the Grenadier has had the Land Rover Defender in its crosshairs. But while that is more electronic than before, the Grenadier relies on more mechanical features, with a 1,546mm-long load bed to carry a payload of up to 835kg.

The ladder frame has an extended wheelbase of 3,227mm too.

WHAT'S UNDER THE BONNET?

You've got BMW-sourced power with either a 3.0-litre diesel or petrol engine.

You'll get better efficiency with the former, with up to 25.9mpg coming from the oil burner compared with the petrol’s 19.6mpg. All cars have four-wheel drive.

All versions get an eight-speed automatic gearbox from ZF - also used by BMW - and performance is adequate. Zero to 60mph takes 9.6 seconds and flat-out, it will manage 99mph.

WHAT'S IT LIKE TO DRIVE?
