Trai recommends backhaul spectrum charges at 0.1% of AGR
Business Standard
|December 11, 2025
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (Trai) has recommended that a fee of 0.1 per cent of the adjusted gross revenue (AGR) be applied to the airwaves that link cell towers to the core network.
This move is expected to reduce the cost of backhaul spectrum charges by more than half.
On Wednesday, the Trai said that instead of calculating charges for the backhaul spectrum on a weighted average formula based on the number of carriers a telco may have, a flat low rate should be applied.
