Real-money gaming sector seeks uniform code of play

Industry players say a national law could protect legitimate operators while weeding out rogue offshore platforms that evade taxes and circumvent customer protection norms.

Currently, states such as Tamil Nadu, Karnataka, Chhattisgarh, and Maharashtra are at varying stages of enforcing their rules for the industry. Industry bodies argue that this patchwork of policies is hurting businesses and consumers alike. They've urged the Centre to set nationwide standards for compliance, advertising, know-your-customer norms, and domestic operator whitelisting.
