House priority focused on economy—Marcos
Business Mirror

FOLLOWING the passage of 18 of the 52 Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council (Ledac) priority measures, a leader of the House of Representatives on Sunday said the chamber’s progress on priority legislation underscores a strategy focused not just on economic recovery but on shielding the country from global shocks while laying the groundwork for long-term growth.
House Majority Leader Ferdinand Alexander A. Marcos said several of the measures prioritized by the House are meant to directly address vulnerabilities exposed by global uncertainties, particularly volatile oil prices and supply chain disruptions.
Among the most critical is the proposed measure allowing the President to suspend or reduce excise taxes on petroleum products, which lawmakers see as a key buffer against inflation and rising transport and food costs.
“We acted with urgency because our people need immediate relief from high fuel prices and the ripple effects on basic goods and services,” Marcos said.
