COURSE CHANGES SEES BURTON ACES VAULT TREE TRUNKS
-
MORE than 25 runners put on a good show for Burton Athletics club in the England Cross Country Relays at Berry Hill Park, Mansfield.
While the relays have been run at this location for many years, developments in the park had made some course changes necessary and meant the addition of some tree trunks to hurdle.
The first race was the 3K junior women - featuring a welcome return for Maisie Trueman, who had missed the summer season with injury.
She ran 9.41 on the first leg to put the team 26th.
Saffron Bowley, now training with the same group at Loughborough University, ran 9.55.
It was the 20th best time in the leg, just faster than last year, to move the team to 24th.
Connie Lees then brought the team home with 12.01 for the 24th in the leg and the team were 24th out of 41.
The under-17 girls were all in the first year of their age group in the 2.5K race.
Charlotte Nettleton had the first leg, finishing in 10.08 for 37th.
Sister Amelia then ran 10.43 for 36th on the leg with the team 33rd.
Sian Gower has last leg duties and she ran 10.59, for 32nd on the leg with the team 29th out of 62. A good result with all in their first year.
The under-13 girls and boys were both running 2k laps and there was a Burton debut for Theo Mulenga and Georgia Dodds in their races.
Mulenga ran leg one in 8.36 for the team to be 80th.
Ernie Allen ran leg 2 in 9.26 for the 70 best leg time. With holidays these were the only two who ran and they were 73rd out of the 83 teams.
